This was the scenario for Mentor New York, a nonprofit that works with companies, schools and organizations to provide mentoring for organizations that serve more than 80,000 young people in New York. Like most nonprofits, Mentor New York had to pivot during the pandemic to virtual events and engagement for its supporters.
Jobs: Locally owned businesses employ more people per unit of sales and retain more employees during economic downturns. Successful applicants will receive coaching and mentoring, deals and perks from a variety of companies, opportunities to pitch to investors, and program support follow-up.
Drivers vary from widening access and participation; to career mentoring and networking; to business, civic, or community engagement; to continuous learning; and more. However, the goal of university IT and finance with respect to advancement should not be simply to reduce costs, which results in far lower ROI.
