What Would Your Organization Do With a $50 Million Donation?

Farewell Lavner!

HSF House

Farewell Lavner! My experience this summer has been hard, tiring, and strenuous, but it has also been rewarding in many ways. This project has shaped the way that I view the world in many different ways. First of all, I have begun to be more appreciative of time- off. Only after having such a jam-packed schedule did I realize the value of downtime. My capstone project is going okay.

Daily Spaces

HSF House

Here is a picture of the place I inhabit daily throughout my experience this summer. To describe my area, it would be a huge rectangle consisting of maybe 3 football fields. I didn’t bring any car to my experience so I was limited when came to exploring most of the area. I have to say, even though I was limited I was still able to interact with community around and have met some wonderful people who share the same values as me.

Regarding my internship, I take regular trips to the office, the homeless shelter, and Campo de la Ribera; although, the times that I go vary daily. The spaces in my personal life have changed a little more than my work locations. I now visit regular cafes and restaurants to do my work or grab a snack.

My capstone project is coming along nicely. Theres a lot to say about my time in volunteering with second harvest, but even more to make note about the issue of sustainability and food insecurity in my city. According to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, one in eight people in Central Florida face food insecurity. Since the pandemic, the number of people they help has almost doubled, and they now distribute enough food for 300,000 meals a day.
