I am currently experiencing the real-time events of a very controversial and widely-covered court case in my hometown through my internship. What has been called “The Black Swan Murder Trial” by the local media and even an episode of 48 Hours is currently being tried by the felony attorney’s at my office. I have gotten to attend the trial, hear the perspectives of the attorney’s working on the case, and what the media has had to say.

For example, I am working in the State Attorney’s Office which has about 7 misdemeanor attorneys and a lot of people working as “support staff.” There seems to be such a strong community between each of the employees.

The community here is very tight knit. I do not feel as if I have joined it, but I do not feel like I am on the outside. There are fundamental differences that separate us, a major one being religion. It has made me think of all the differences in community in the U.S. Nepalese people are friendlier and kinder to strangers than the typical American.

My experience has been so amazing this summer. Not only have I learned so much, I have had so much fun. I really thought the longer hours I took on would make the job become dreadful after a month or so of being there, however, I was excited to go to work almost every single day. The job itself was extremely unpredictable, and I never knew what was going to happen.
