First, joining the Grants Professionals Association (GPA) opened new opportunities, which led me to pursue a position with Assel Grant Services (AGS). Then, with the support of the Grants Professional Foundation, I earned my grant professional certified (GPC) credential.

Despite advocating for fellow research administrators, I did not identify myself as fitting into that specific role – because my role was that of a grant professional.

When I joined the Arizona Founding Chapter of GPA nearly 15 years ago, I was a young, eager, and highly motivated grant writer with only a couple years of experience. I admired and looked up to fellow chapter members who were grant writing veterans, many of whom had their GPC. Second, the GPCI and GPA communities are amazing.

In early November 2023, I attended GrantSummit (formerly known as the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Annual Conference) in Kansas City, Missouri. This multi-day conference is the premier professional development event for grant professionals in the U.S. Grant professionals are mighty.
