In order to assess the validity of a proposal in relationship to the solicitation, many donors, especially foundations, request a Letter of Intent (LOI) from future applicants. This is the letter that will lead to the invitation to apply for the grant. That you, your team , and institution are capable of succeeding if funded.
Funding Period: The period of time during which a grant funding award is available for the recipient to utilize. Hedge: You should ‘hedge your bets’ by submitting multiple grant proposals to increase the chances of winning a grant award. Notice of Award (NoA): Official notice to grant applicants.

Let’s sort this out, LOI can be a Letter of Inquiry, a Letter of Introduction, or a Letter of Intent. Make sure you are an exceptional fit and have proof you’ve been responsible stewards of past awards. Do you even know what LOI is short for? Confusion exists because LOI has three commonly referenced meanings.
