In June 2024, Florida governor Ron DeSantis vetoed $32 million in state funding for nonprofit arts organizations. As a 2023 Independent Sector study noted, only 31% of nonprofits surveyed in 2022 reported engaging in advocacy or lobbying or both in the last five years, and only 25% reported ever lobbying, down from 74% in 2000.
