Both types of certifications signify a standardized level of expertise and often follow the completion of specialized training and exams. This is the boat I am in; I wrote grants for a decade before GPCI first offered certifications in 2008 (GPA of Lower Hudson, n.d.), Who Is Certified? so I never got around to it.
